(National Association
of Boards of Pharmacy)

Mindful of the rush by some politicians
to hitch a ride on the cross-border prescription drug express and the
law be damned, the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy has joined
its Canadian counterpart to develop a framework to bring some order to
the chaos that is the Canadian Rx drug trade.
A system similar to the one used
by state pharmacy boards to regulate out-of-state pharmacies is under
discussion by NABP and Canada's National Association of Pharmacy Regulatory
Authorities (NAPRA), said Carmen Catizone, NABP executive director. "If
a pharmacy in Canada was going to provide drugs to the United States,
there could be U.S. registration or licensure and cooperation in terms
of sharing information between the province [where the pharmacy is located]
and the state," he said. "We're trying to get all the provinces to meet
with NABP representatives and see how we can make this work." Click
