Canadian firm buys Georgia Eckerd stores

Canadian drug store company The Jean Coutu Group Inc. has signed an agreement with J.C. Penney Company Inc. to buy 1,539 Eckerd drugstores, including those in Georgia.

The $2.375 billion deal, which is expected to close in June, includes the support facilities located in 13 states of the Northeast and mid-Atlantic as well as Eckerd's headquarters in Florida.
